pLayday: 6/3 – Mix it up? Rockband? Halo3?

pLayday: 6/3 – Mix it up? Rockband? Halo3?

Quickie post:

I’m thinking of mixing it up a bit. We’ve been a bit gta4 heavy. That isn’t to say “No GTA4 tonight!” Just thinking: “maybe 30 minutes of 2 groups of rockband?” or some Halo 3 to get some split screenage (I may get Matt to come over and join us for a bit).

Other ideas?

pLayday: 5/27 – huh?

Well, I was helping a friend move/clean. So I forgot to post/email and organize pLayday. Apparently, that was enough for no one to show up. Oh well.

Remember: pLayday is akin to a (your favorite) TV show. It’s Tuesdays at 8pm CST, regardless of whether there was a commercial this week.

Also, we’ve been a bit GTA4 heavy. I’m thinking we mix it up again next week with either Halo, Undertow, or most likely Call of Duty 4 (if our Amazon DotD copies get in on time). Also, those games have better party systems than GTA4’s currently broken “most of you will stick together” way of doing things.

Any preference on the subject?

Xbox DRM – In the age of PC Digital Distrobution

I can\'t let you do that, Dave

Xbox DRM – In the age of PC Digital Distrobution

Xbox DRM has been a bane for us all. We have all red ringed our xbox 360’s, and if you haven’t, then you just haven’t used yours enough yet. I’m not sure how they calculate their 10-30% failure rate. I believe it lies closer to 100%. It WILL fail eventually, often within a year and a half. Still, it is probably the system to own if you like to play games (lots of great exclusives), and especially if you like to game online with friends. Once your 360 dies and you (hopefully) get it replaced, you have access to your content. Restricted access that requires the owner be logged on the 360, and in some extreme cases MUST BE ACTIVELY PLAYING. This is to prevent friends from sharing Live content, but it affects us ALL once our first system dies. I have to be logged in just for my friends to have access to FREE GAMER PICS I downloaded while they make their Profile (Local or Live).

PC Gaming, however, has even a bigger hurdle with Piracy. Yet, they are adapting in different ways with their digital distribution. Is there a solution to DRM on either platform that can make consumers happy, while giving businesses profit? The rule of a successful compromise is that neither party leaves happy; but isn’t that necessary for good/repeat business? As a consumer, shouldn’t we BE happy?

I finally read: Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash

I finally read: Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash

Worthy of a read based entirely on concept alone: a sequel to Freddy vs. Jason, with a bit of Army of Darkness thrown in. This comic’s contents could consist of someone wiping their ass with sandpaper and you would still take a look.

Thankfully, the interior is often as entertaining as the cover.

Animation vs. Textures

she still kicks high

Animation vs. Textures

So, which is more important to you?:

Smooth, fluid animation sacrificing high detailed textures and anti-aliasing? Or do you prefer a hyper realistic look, even if the jump animation just looks a little (or way) off?

Or do you just sacrifice both for a bit of fun (see: Marvel Ultimate Alliance)?

Itagaki likes everything, but specifically mentions “movement and animation” here. Of course, anyone who has played Dead or Alive knows that :)

[12:51] Aaron: ..the name alone…
[12:52] Craig: And only $10. How could you go wrong.
[12:59] Aaron: i dunno. i think “crusty” and “only $10” can go wrong in a LOT of ways

don't tell me the ending to: Bleach

Bleach is fun, but can hurt

don’t tell me the ending to: Bleach

This anime suffers from DBZ syndrome. But it’s still entertaining. I’ve watched through the end of the Soul Society arc, and hit the first section where they are probably just adding in filler. The filler section is what stopped my Naruto watching dead cold, so we’ll see if this has the same effect.

The Darkness Progress Report #2

The Darkness Progress Report #2

I’ve been slowly working my way back through The Darkness. I have diligently put aside the bigger titles (like GTA IV and Mass Effect) in an effort to finish a half dozen or so “half-finished” games. These aren’t games I have just played, but games I was more than half completed with.

That isn’t to say The Darkness is a bad, or sub-par game. It is actually quite enjoyable and fun. By the Chronicles of Riddick guys (Starbreeze), The Darkness is a well-developed FPS.

It definitely is coming together even better near the end, as you finally have enough Shadow Shield (life) and Ammo to make it through a fire fight without losing either. Early game required a fair amount of hiding while shields could recharge. The game also had a very Half-life 1 feel for the ammo collection. You generally get just barely more than it takes to kill everyone. Every missed shot reduces your overall pool, and sometimes you will find yourself switching from empty guns after killing just a couple of guys.

Luckily, I finally got the Black Hole power and nearly max level of darkness. Continue reading

pLayday: 5/13 – GTA Driver’s Test

I’m thinking, perhaps a goal of some sort for this week’s run. Maybe center on the Race modes for a bit? I could use the driving practice.

Our cops and robbers games are fun, but often end when either team slams into a wall for no real reason. I certainly don’t “race” enough in single player, but have plenty of on foot practice under my belt.

Viva Pinata 2: It’s official

Critical acclaim, but no sales. Guess they are giving it a go again anyways? Since all of my friends just love this game, perhaps I’ll have to boot up the 1st and give it a go.
