Upcoming pLayday: 2/12 – Gears of War

I’m thinking the next pLayday can be Gears of War. Chue will probably be warmed up and turn us all into tiny chunks of meat, but it should be a fun if we can get the team balance down. Or remove the sniper rifle from all the maps.

Any suggestions on maps? playtype will probably be the respawning one (name?).

Oh, here’s your reminder now. Go get the free map packs available online now. They are quite large, so waiting until Tuesday may cut into playtime or map selection.

and Chue: “No playing between now and then. please?”

First Names on xbLive and pLayday page?

First Names on xbLive and pLayday page?

Does anyone have any objection to adding their first names to the Names section of xbLive, and for me adding them to the pLayday page? Most of you know each other, but not everyone, even those you’ve played with on Live before.

Hintzilla, btw, is a friend of mine from WTS. Everyone else are friends I’ve known through the BNMC or Scooter.

pLayday: 2/5 – Undertow

pLayday: 2/5 – Undertow

Real quick post because I was too busy this weekend (and forgot).

The game is Undertow. We all own it. Let’s try it out. If we get bored we can easily switch back over to Halo or another game, depending on who is able to make it tonight.

I would also like to remind that pLayday is only an hour, technically. Think of it as watching a TV show from 8-9pm. There is no commitment (period), but especially none for showing up early, or continuing to play for a full on gaming session of 2+ hours. Hell, if you can only make it for half an hour, that is encouraged.

So, let’s get to trying out this compensation for xblive downtime. If you haven’t played the campaign, I recommend it as a fun split-screen co-op game.

How to add Picture links to WordPress posts

How to add Picture links to WordPress posts

By default, pictures in wordpress are added with a link that takes you to a page about the picture or straight to the picture file itself. Neither of these solutions do what you generally want: the picture link to take you to the more detailed view of the post. To do that you:

1) Write your article.

2) Add your picture (tree picture icon in the toolbar) to the top of the article by having the cursor up there. Select the options: Fullsize, and Link to: None.

3) Center the picture with the paragraph control. (align center, rather than align left or right).

4) Publish/Post the post.

5) Click on the post to get the post’s permanent (real) url.

6) Edit the post, click the picture, and click the chain link icon in the toolbar to add a url.

7) paste in the post’s permanent url. then save.

I found a small bug, whereas if you added a picture with a Link to: Page (page about picture). Even if you remove the link, or edit it and paste in the real one and click save, it will not work. You must remove the link entirely (break chain button in toolbar), then save, then add in the new link.

Don't tell me the ending to: Berserk

Berserk Guts

Don’t tell me the ending to: Berserk

Berserk is an old, still on going manga. The basic premise is a demon hunting tale of revenge. The TV Series that aired (also quite good) consists entirely of a flashback that occurs mid-series in the manga (vol 4-12 roughly). It has one of the most badass main character in any medium (see: the Lost Children story arc). The story is well done and involved. It is a fun, action-filled read.

There is no ending to: Rock Band

Accordion Band

There is no ending to: Rock Band

Rock Band is a party game. The common complaints I have heard are that the difficulty isn’t high enough, and that the guitar controller doesn’t ‘click.’ These complaints seem to come mostly from people who like Guitar Hero. Both of these complaints are true: the difficulty is not as high as Guitar Hero 2, and the Guitar is harder to use on Expert Difficulty to hit quick notes. Both of these don’t matter as much as the fact the game is meant to be played with 4 people, each with a beer in hand. Continue reading

Planescape: Torment is the greatest game never made; *KNOW* that it was made too early

Planescape by Nick

Planescape: Torment was way ahead of its time. It is a great game, with an excellent story. The characters, individually, are amongst the best; deep backstories, interesting personality quirks. The setting is the Planescape plane of the Dungeons and Dragons universe, the hub plane for the rest (Baldur’s Gate’s Forgotten Realms, the traditional/original DnD, etc). It is unlike any setting you have seen, in any media. Continue reading

I just bought Rez. You should, too.

Rez Plz!

I just bought Rez.  You should, too.

On Xbox Live and PSN, there are a few must own games. Undertow was free, and I hope you all already got that one. Alien Hominid packs a ton of value into its $10’s of classic Contra-like action. Everyday Shooter is probably the best top-down shooter, and PixelJunk Monsters has some of the most simple, fun co-op I’ve played in awhile.
Rez, however, is a classic. If you haven’t already played it, then you at least know of it. You know it’s hard to find. You know its a cult-classic. You know about the Trance Vibrator . So, is Rez worth $10 bucks? Considering that’s the price of admission to “must-see” movies: Yes. Sure, half the time the movie just isn’t your cup of tea or is over-hyped. The other half of the time, though, the movie is quite entertaining. And sometimes, it’s really, really great.

Either way, you have to see it to be able to talk about it with your buddies. And, can anyone really describe Rez well in words? I may give it a shot later (starfox-rhythm-panzerDragoon-flOw-amplitude shooting game?), but you do need to try playing it the Miz way.

Found the parts. When I flick the switch will it live?

Found the parts.  When I flick the switch will it live?

I’ll think of a name for it over the next few days. My current desktop, ely4sm, is from June ’03, invoiced back in January of 2003. I just dug up the paperwork to double check that. That’s older than I thought. Of course, it was a beast when I bought it, costing over $3000. I worked the whole summer of Senior Year to get the extra $1k to buy my alienware (which lasted one year before they had to cough up a full refund…but that’s another story. With the refund I bought my current desktop). Anyway, this sucker, in its entirety, is still expensive but only a fraction of that: only costing roughly $1300. That’s including a custom heatsink (which I never did get on ely4sm).

Anyway, go check out the final build: https://www.donttellmetheending.com/2008/01/16/building-a-new-pc/

When the parts arrive, I’ll have to put it together. I hope it turns on.

Rant: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 NEEDS to have co-op combination of Live and Local. If I have 2 friends over, and a 3rd at his home, I want to play with all of them, dammit.

It’s not like the experience is any different on Live than Local play already. The screen locks you all together no matter which platform (local or live) that you play on. You simply can’t have 2 people on the same console. If Halo can do it, an xbox port of the xmen legends engine sure should be able to. Or perhaps that’s the problem…

Either way, from a gamer’s standpoint: just do it already. You know it makes sense.
