Fuel: Post-apoc burnout mixed with Motorstorm by the Codemaster guys

fuelscreen4-roadrash

Codemaster (the guys who make really good driving games) are currently bringing us a post-apocalyptic racer: Mad Max in style, open world of Burnout Paradise, and looks similar to Motorstorm.

This game will have to get awful reviews for me to not be interested.

Blood Bowl is going to be awesome

bb_05

I hope we can set up private leagues.  A tabletop game by the Warhammer guys, it was a violent version of tabletop football.  Like a turn-based Mutant League with fantasy characters.  It will apparently feature both the traditional turn-based mode, and an arcade real-time mode.

don't tell me the ending to: Fables

fables_2_medium

I recently finished volume 4 of Fables.  It is a comic that takes very well know and established children’s story characters and applies them to a modern world.  The stories from your childhood have had to flee their lands and establish an outpost in the real world New York.  Snow White, Jack and the Beanstalk, and the Big Bad Wolf all assume roles in this new society that attempts to remain hidden from human eyes.  Some characters are combined, such as Prince Charming is every Prince in each story; a womanizer who cheated on each princess when rescuing the next.

Buying a new laptop

http://i.gizmodo.com/5075525/why-you-should-buy-a-refurbished-laptop

Which is exactly what I did when I bought my “new” Dell XT.  When built new, this machine would have cost $2200, but was available for around $800-$900.  With a 20% off coupon, shipping, tax, it came out to about $671.

I was planning on picking up a netbook and a Wacom tablet.  Then Ted told me about this deal, which I bit on.  So far, it seems like a great compromise.  Throwing on the Windows 7 beta was also a great idea, as was buying Crayon Physics Deluxe.

CSI people need to stop being shot in the head

csi-miami

Rant:

CSI people are the Judge Dreads of TV.  They investigate, analyze, apprehend, interrogate, and occasionally execute their criminals.  Each agent is assigned to a case with a partner.   Each partner is fully capable of doing any of the tasks required.  If one performs a task, the other comes over and pats them on the shoulder; it could have just as easily been them performing the hair fiber analysis.  They aren’t specialists; they are super-humans who have 8 PhD’s and are more capable in all aspects of a case than any one real specialist.

And then they don’t even die when shot in the head.  Repeatedly.

Then they come back, *retarded*, and they are still smarter than everyone but their partners.

Steam weekend deal: Ubisoft classic pack

steamwd-ubisoft-classic-pack

This week it Steam offers the Ubisoft classic pack.  Each game individually is normally $10, and it looks like they teamed these 4 together for a limited time.  The Ubisoft classic Pack includes:

Classic status may be a large label to put on some of these games, but there is hardly a weak link in the bunch.  3 of the games are highly regarded and rated, and most people *wanted* to like Dark Messiah, they just found it too buggy.

This shit is funny. Cat Shit One funny.

“Oh My God” is right.  The concept of cute rabbits and camels fighting it out in the middle east is pretty funny.  It gets funnier when you see how seriously the subject matter is presented in an ultra violent fashion.  It gets “oh my god” funny when the bunny opens its mouth to reveal a deep Japanese voice.

This is great.  Anyone heard/seen this before?

Thanks, Seanx2 and warmingglow

Lunch Conversations: Music Composition and Ajax

Over lunch we began talking about John Williams, and the lesser John Williams (but couldn’t remember his name).  This reminded me of Ajax Greater and Ajax Lesser.  Two different characters in the myth about Troy and in the Illiad.  Both Greek Warriors who fought alongside Achillies.  Both prominent warriors on the battlefield.  One a great and noble warrior who kills himself after he is proclaimed 2nd best after Achilles death (Odysseus is 1st and gets Achilles’ armor).  The other drags Cassandra from a Temple of Athena and rapes her.

We got back, and looked it up:

pLayday: 3/12 – L4D

Dunno what I feel like tonight. I’ll go with the safe bet of Left 4 Dead unless anyone else feels like pushing another title (burnout, sf4 at my place, gta4, halo3).

UT3: Big Patch, Free Weekend, and $12

That’s right, after UT3’s abysmal launch, Epic has come back to support it.  The Titan patch finally landed:

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/57517

UT3’s retail copy key can be input into Steam to activate it as a Steam game (or not, but you get Steam Achievements if you do).  Steam is hosting a free weekend of UT3 play to celebrate the launch, and the game is 40% off ($20 to $12) during this duration as well.  I definitely recommend installing the free trial and seeing if the game runs.  Unreal Tournament is always a great game to play, and have, for LANs.
