go buy: Rainbow Six Vegas 2

Gamefly just threw up this deal for Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 for $24 with free shipping (and I believe no tax).  You probably won’t find this cheaper, and I’ve had pretty good luck with gamefly.  It’s used, and if you ever do get a bad disc you can apparently just send it back for replacement.

I haven’t had to do that yet.  And they come with box and instruction manual.

…and to think I paid full price for mine, and I haven’t even gotten through R6V1 yet…

Who else already owns this?

pLayday: 9/16 – Halo 3

Let’s do something fun and easy that requires no organization in any way.  Castle Crashers and Rock Band prove to be a bit on the complicated side, forcing people to get excluded from the fun due to not being organized enough up front.  That’s fine from time to time, but it’s also fun to include everyone who wants to play.  There’s only one game in town that manages to do just that: Halo 3.

Still the King when it comes to the multiplayer arena due to slick user interface, though perhaps Rock Band 2 will prove to be nearly as easy once more people own it.

Diablo 2 Party – Let's roll.

Alright, I put this off for awhile, but now it’s time to get a firm party and date for this shindig.  Post your available Days and Times, and your Top 2-3 Class choices.  We’ll dub the timeslot as D2day. ;)

Once a week, a couple of hours or quests a week.  This is not as ‘optional’ as pLayday, as it’ll be harder to move forward if people do not show, or are different levels.

Don’t tell me the ending to: Rainbow Six Vegas

Rainbow Six: Vegas is a solid example of a good, squad based FPS.  It combines excellent teammate AI with deadly enemies, turning you from gung-ho hero into a team member.  You are a part of this team and in many cases *you* are the weak link.  This is a very different feel from your average FPS, where you can run out and do anything.

It is also very different from simply playing on a high difficulty.  Being killed easily here is not the same as a cheapshot from a random soldier who only shoots at you on COD4’s Veteran difficulty.  It is because your tactics fell apart and you were flanked (similar to the excellent Brothers in Arms series).

Let’s not mess with a bad thing: compliment sandwich time. Continue reading

I finally beat: Castle Crashers

**Before you are saddened by my beating this without you, note this: I want to go through it again.**

I finally sat down and beat Castle Crashers.  Matt, Chue, and Sean had already gone through by themselves and defeated the final boss.  Ztynzo offered to sit down with a secondary character and help me finish the main campaign.

I say finish the main campaign b/c Castle Crashers is hardly over after the final boss goes down.

pLayday: 9/9 – Rockband

Alright, so I got some requests we do Rockband instead of Halo.  We may have both running at the same time, or just bounce back and forth.  We’ll see.  Either way, I grabbed some new RB DLC and some new Halo 3 DLs, just for fun.

pLayday: 9/9 – Halo 3 -> Rockband

I’m thinking a nice, easy to join game would be a good switch from the slightly hard to organize 4 person party/multiple games of Castle Crashers (plus, the online was proven to be pretty broken).

If anyone wants to find some custom maps and gametype combos, I would definitely be up for some of those over the standard ladder matches.  Of course, gaining experience isn’t so bad either.

I finally watched: Jumper

And I didn’t feel like jumping afterwards.  Not off a cliff, the roof, or even down a flight of stairs.  It certainly wasn’t a “good” movie.  I’m sure I would have been a bit more angry if I’d paid $10 to see it in a theater.  But, all in all, it was enjoyable to finally knock that off my list.

Curiousity drove me to see Jumper,

and it didn’t kill me.

don't tell me the ending to: Castle Crashers

Have you ever played a game in an arcade?  If so you’ve probably played the beat’em-up genre of Castle Crashers.  You move into the foreground, background, and side to side, and you beat up masses of enemies that walk in from the edges of the screen.  Each usually takes a combo or two to put down.  Blocking is optional, the best defense is to walk straight up or down out of the plane of the attack.

You will also have this nostalgia if you had any of the home console versions of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle games (Turtles in Time! Cowabunga!).

Castle Crashers is the most polished example of the genre.  Polished in terms of production values and gameplay.  However, is the best of the genre worth getting if the genre died out years ago?  Read on: my impressions as a compliment sandwich

Get hyped for: Prototype

Whenever you hear about a Sandbox game, you generally hear about GTA.  But there is one other title that generally comes up, especially if the game involves lots of destruction:

Hulk: Ultimate Destruction

And now they are making another sandbox game:

Prototype.

Time to get hyped.
