When you are low on health, there is only one way to REALLY get it back

pLayday: 5/6 – GTA 4 Real, yo.

When you are low on health, you can either try to find a hooker, cox her into your car (which has to look nice), drive somewhere nice and quiet, and take some time to get your health back.

Or you can go into the local burger joint and be out in a 10 seconds. Also, an apparently fun Free Mode multiplayer gametype is to hold up in a fast food joint and see how many stars you can amass.

GTA 4. Zazz and Kflair have 2 xboxs due to some creative lending, so we can hopefully get both of them in the game. Everyone owns this, including phyzkid. Let’s see if we can get a nice large group and hop around the play types. I’ve definitely been enjoying Cops Vs Robbers mode and Free Mode. The team Mayfia work one may be interesting as well (we’ve only dont FFA Mayfia).

Any suggestions? Everyone able to make it?

I finally watched: Iron Man

Iron Man is not the most popular comic character in the comic world. Non-comic fans are not very familiar with him, if at all. Comic fans don’t like him from his actions during the Civil War and World War Hulk saga (and probably the upcoming Skrull saga). He’s made an appearance in Xmen Legends 2 as a secret, unlockable character but that would hardly bring people into the movies. So what is it that has people enjoying Iron Man so much? How is it getting such popular reviews?

I finally watched: Bender’s Big Score

Futurama’s back. Soon it will be entering a new season on TV. This series will consist of 3(?) straight to DVD movies, which are then cut up and placed on air as episodes. Bender’s Big Score is the first of these straight to DVD movies. The plot involves a bit of time travel, but is not the only reason the pacing and timing of the show is off. Still, more Futurama, even if not in its prime, is better than most television and worth watching for fans of the series.

pLayday: 4/22 – Last minute Gears

We picked up Gears as our game. First round was a bit of a blow out, but the teams of Phokal, Zazz, Boramis vs. cvang, kFlair, and Euphoric seemed like quite a well-balanced match-up. It was a fun time had by all until Live decided to hiccup. In one second we lost our live connections, which the game detects and then kicks you from the game.

Hopefully this downtime doesn’t occur next week when the game is tentatively GTA IV.

Yup, hope you all have it pre-ordered.

Awesome.

It doesn’t have to be good. It just has to be better than Justice League: Task Force (which has the Long-haried Superman).

I think it’ll be fun. Rumors of removed blood and toned down violence have been floating around, but the trailer still looks plenty gritty, and Batman bleeds a bit as he gets punched. I think they could still have Superman lobotomizing someone as a fatality….at least, I could wish for it.

Almost a bigger question, how are they going to handle Flight? In JL:TF, you could just,..fly. But because of the street fighter perspective anyone could jump kick you out of the sky. Still, unlimited flight and heat vision (spamming QCF+P) really added to the fact you were playing as Superman.

Title Announced for new X-Files movie: “X-Files: Mystery of the Jumping Sharks”

Well, it is becoming a bit more real:

http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movies/04/16/film.xfiles.title.ap/index.html

The X-Files is coming back. This used to be one of my favorite shows. After 5-6 seasons (around the time of the movie), they stopped doing clever stand-alone shows and started to focus on the Conspiracy. The alien storyline was done well originally when it was not every episode, which made the individual black oil episodes more interesting. Once that became the central plot-line of the show, connecting each episode to the next, the plot began to, ironically, fall apart.

I never saw the end of the series. Couldn’t bring myself to watch the Terminator-guy do his thing. He wasn’t bad. But after 9 years how skeptical can you still be? As the audience, you damn well KNOW something is odd. The show had to start making REAL explanations (“the ink in the tattoo caused you to hallucinate”) to be the twists.

Will I go see the movie? Probably. But first I’ll have to read up on how everything ended in the TV show.

Apparently: It didn’t.

pLayday: 4/15 – Halo 3

Well, I lent Zazz my copy of CoD4, so I can’t very well pick THAT to play. If everyone who shows has Orange Box we may flip to that. But I think a better idea would be if I (or you) get friends over for split screen fun, then we can stick with Halo.

In fact, try to invite some more random friends in for this lan game. We’ll try to keep the difficulty at a chill level. Emphasis on teamwork. In fact, let’s try the Race game mode on the large maps with vehicles. In preparation for GTA IV. Which you all must buy. Seriously.

We can try multiple teams (3-4 teams, depending on how many people show).

The Darkness Progress Report #1

I’ve recently picked up The Darkness, again. I was about halfway through when it was bumped by Bioshock, which was bumped by Assassin’s Creed (and Kane and Lynch, and Army of Two, and The Simpson’s game). But now I’m back to finish it off. And it is fun.

Jumping between different control schemes is a bit of a pain. In this, the B button is reload, as I had to apparently make X action/eat heart (in my infinite wisdom when I first configured the controls). RB is Dark Power (using your currently selected Dark Power such as: Creeping Thing that goes around on the ground and kills people, Tentacle that can impale people (awesome, but hard to use), Darkness Guns (guns that don’t use ammo in a game where ammo is pretty scarce).

I prefer games where each button directly controls a power, like PsiOps, rather than games that make you cycle through different abilities in order to use them. Whenever I played Jedi Knight, I bound my favorite force powers to specific keys on the keyboard, and Force Push to Mouse3.

Of course, there would then have to be less Powers/Guns, but PsiOps had several powers and all were accessible easily.

Which would you prefer? A massive quantity of weapons and force powers that you can cycle through (cycling doesn’t bother you that much), or sacrifice some in order for a one button = one power/weapon scheme?

Let’s go with a staple everyone likes that supports split-screen. Plus, we have a new map we’ve never even played on. The remade blood gultch. And everyone likes Halo.

And kittens. Everyone likes kittens, too.

don't tell me the ending to: Phoenix Wright – Ace Attorney

I object!

don’t tell me the ending to: Phoenix Wright – Ace Attorney

Sometimes, I’m not in front of my TV playing games. Perhaps I’m on a bus, or a car trip, or on the toilet. In these situations, I may be playing either my PSP or DS. Lately, it’s been the DS and the cult title: Phoenix Wright – Ace Attorney.

Originally a port of an old GBA title that was never released outside Japan, the DS version takes little advantage of the touch screen to improve the interface. The game does ooze personality, however, in its cast of eclectic characters. Can a crappy port still be enjoyable if the base game was initially good (but not worth exporting)?

I think so.
