We are all going to buy GTA IV

The GTA IV Special edition bundle

We are all going to buy GTA IV

That’s right. We don’t have a lot of info on the included multiplayer of GTA IV, but we all know we are going to buy it anyway. I propose this be one of the games we all get for pLayday, as it is potentially (rumored) to have 16 player multiplayer. Does anyone think they won’t end up with this game within a week of launch?

Awesome board game

This is pretty sweet. I wonder how they will get the achievements tied to my live account? Perhaps it’s like the Halo 3 extras dvd, that is actually a game.

I finally beat: Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare

I finally beat: Call of Duty 4 – Modern Warfare

Last week, or perhaps 2 weeks ago, I beat CoD4’s single player campaign. After much trial and error, I made it through a particularly hard spot near the end, where you have just a few minutes to beat a level (and don’t receive checkpoints unless you reach it with at least a certain amount of time on the clock). A couple of ‘I’m a fish in a barrel’ hallways filled with enemies later and the credits roll.

But it’s not over. After the credits is one final, extra mission. A mission where you must traverse through a plane filled with terrorists who can shoot through your cover within a 1 minute time limit. And the entire reason this article has been delayed until now. Did I beat it? Or did I give up after playing the same ONE GOD DAMN MINUTE OF MY LIFE FOR FIVE FUCKING HOURS?

I finally beat: Army of Two

Sometimes, just sometimes, you can take something that shouldn’t go together and it’ll turn out OK. Maybe even good. Like Peanut butter and chocolate, or Tabasco sauce and Soy sauce on a chicken sandwich (really, it works),

…or EA and a good game.

Or at least EA and an OK game. Sure, they just copied Gears of War, and perhaps not as well as Gears, but it has its own merits. And you can’t earn as many achievements playing the Gears Campaign AGAIN, now can you? And the game isn’t dark and dreary. Just because Brown is Real, doesn’t mean I like it. Even AoT’s “everything is sand” is better. At least it’s brighter. Unlike Skate, which only had to topple a 10 year old stale serie, AoT has some stiff competition from Gears of War, Halo, and every other multiplayer shooter out there. So, how does it stack up? And what does it do wrong (it’s EA, they had to screw something up)?

There is no ending to: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Snake Beats Mario

There is no ending to: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Out of all my friends, I only know a couple of people who like Super Smash Bros. Brawl. They were big fans the the n64 or cube versions and are far better than I am at the game. They also play it a great deal more often. Everyone else I know (a vast majority) just can’t get into the game. I’m unsure why. But I have a hypothesis: screen tracking, randomness of environment, control intimidation. More simply put: they can’t keep track of what is going on the screen, the environment and items keep killing them and they don’t know why/can’t recognize why, and they perceive most of this is related to the fact that they think it can be controlled with the character. Comic, btw, is brought to you by the genius at VGCats.com Continue reading

don't tell me the ending to: Superman Returns

Bizarro

don’t tell me the ending to: Superman Returns

I’ve seen the movie. I wish they had taken the last 45 minutes and left it on the cutting room floor. But that’s not what this post is about. It is about a Superman video game that doesn’t suck.

That doesn’t mean it is good. It means it may be ok, or a little bad. But it doesn’t suck. And that hasn’t happened. Almost Ever. I liked Blizzard’s Death and Return of Superman, but that game was hard and had no co-op, and no way to save your progress. It was like 1player Battle Toads.

This game is like Spiderman 2 (great game), but instead of swinging, you just fly everywhere. In a way that isn’t like driving a semi-truck drunk with a locked steering column through the air. And no, I don’t mean a flying semi-truck through the air; I mean a flying a normal, average semi-truck (see: Superman 64). Continue reading

Headtracking Wii

bloom box has head tracking.

Remember those awesome head tracking vids of the wii? Of course you do; they are old as hell. But this link has been sitting in my archive awhile and I forgot to post it when it was new.

Guess who else saw the videos? That’s right! None other than Steven Spielberg. Well, maybe not him directly, but the people working on his game apparently did.

Thanks for the link, Matt!

For those not hyped about Steven’s game, know this: It’s a puzzle game, it’s cute, it has explosions, it has marching armies of chickens.

Believe the hype.

Buy?: Rainbow Six Vegas 2

I was initially going to fully endorse everyone buy this game. But, from what I’ve seen we may want to hold off. The primary reason initially was Terrorist Hunt was (I thought) going to have a higher player cap. With a max of 4 players, this isn’t the co-op heaven I thought it would be for our larger-than-4-players pLayday group. Adversial, I’m sure, is still great fun, but $60 fun for all of us? I’m thinking CoD4 may be the better purchase (especially since it can be found for only $40 most of the time).

If I crack open R6V2 and find it supports splitscreen AND online at the same time (R6V1 did not, CoD4 does not), then maybe I’ll push it a bit harder. Until then, hold off unless you just want to play it with some friends (like me…you can play with me. I still own it.) since it probably won’t become the pLayday staple I was hoping for.

pLayday: 3/25 – Halo 3 for real this time

H3 Standoff Map

pLayday: 3/25 – Halo 3  for real this time

Alright, so we pretty much ALL missed last week’s pLayday. Poor Boramis was the only one around. Last week, my idea was to have a homework assignment: to make a Custom Game type. Well, I’ve been ridiculously busy this past week, so the assignment is different. Instead: Download the soon to be free Heroic Map Pack.

That’s right, by the time you read this tomorrow, the Heroic Map Pack will be available online for free. 3 new maps: 1 of which is like a small, re-imagined blood gultch (if you’ve played Halo 1 or 2, it was on THIS map), one is an ultra customizable mod tool that isn’t bad on its own,…and I think the 3rd just sucks. But we’ll find out! All of us! Because we were too cheap to spend $10 on 3 new maps (which…really,…that’s way too much).

Griffball (from the Red Vs Blue guys) looks fun. Perhaps we’ll give that a shot later once one of us has it set up. For now, just be sure to download the new pack as it’ll be in standard rotation and we all want to play on the new maps.

Holy Grail Dead Cart
I’m not dead, yet…
It’s been a pretty awful week (last week). This week…we’ll see.
I’ve been pretty busy, and have a large backlog of articles I want to write and talk about, about the large backlog of games I have and movies I’ve only recently seen….
Son of a bitch….I should have seen THAT coming.
I have a blog about always being behind in what I want to play and watch….and I get behind in it. How’s THAT for funny?
Well, let’s roll up the sleeves and get to it.
