don’t tell me the ending to: Battlestar Galactica

battlestar_galactica

Battlestar Galactica is one of the best shows currently on television.  Much like other recent, popular TV series, BG is a continual story connected with consecutive episodes.  It is not a plot you can jump into midway; you have to start with the pilot and watch the show sequentially.

Galactica has introduced a number of plot and characters over its three and a half seasons.  Soon, season 4 will resume on January 16th from its mid-season hiatus.  These final episodes will conclude the story started back in 2003 with the relaunch of the show.

Surviving Expert L4D

I found this wordpress blog post to be both informative and interesting.  Did you know that once you set a Tank on fire, it is going to die X seconds later, no matter if you shoot it or not?  Or that if it jumps in the water the fire goes out, but it will still die X seconds later?

Useful stuff.  I’m going to have to try some of this out.

I finally watched: Sukiyaki Western Django

sukiyaki_western_django_movie_image_quentin_tarantino

This is not a movie that can be recommended to anybody.  It can simply be explained.  Your listener, you, can then decide if they should get excited:

A modern take on the spaghetti western, filmed in Japan were lines are delivered in broken English from Japanese actors who may or may not actually know how to speak English.  And Quentin Tarantino has a part in it.

there is no end to: Left 4 Dead

left4dead_quoted

Abandoned and alone in a city infested with zombies, you have no hope for survival.  The feeling of being surrounded but isolated is what most zombie/horror stories, movies, and games go for.  Yet, in many stories there are at least some other human survivors (for awhile).  Left 4 Dead centers around this aspect: the teamwork to survive.  However, in a traditional zombie movie, four CounterStrike counter-terrorist agents would have little trouble surviving.  Something has to be done to make the game challenging for the people who are already excellent at games like Halo or Team Fortress 2.

That something is the endless horde of 28 Days Later zombies.

I'm Scared

madden09

This past holiday season, we’ve seen a few new pieces of IP come out of EA. I think EA is tired of being called a treadmill and want to show that they can create games as well as release roster updates.

Of course, both of the new titles, while doing well critically, did poorly at the checkout counter. The new Prince of Persia tried a few new things, moving away from the hardcore market, and as far as I can tell, they are being punished for it. Would it have sold better as a direct offspring of the existing franchise? Those have to be the questions that are being asked right now for the sequel. It is better for the gamer if the industry introduced new things (think Guitar Hero or Wii, both are interesting ideas that entertained millions)

Of course, if the companies aren’t rewarded with profits, that kills their motivation to introduce new concepts. As much as I am a fan of sequels, there has to be an exhaustion point where we when the audience wants something new, the industry can’t deliver it to them. (I think the Japanese developers have suffered from something similar. They have become accustomed to developing a certain genre or series, and now that the rest of the industry has shifted, they are having a difficult time keeping up in terms of technology).

This isn’t a call to arms or anything like that, it’s just an observation that even though gamers say that they want innovation, the majority of gamers are perfectly content with the status quo.

How can something be this awesome?

afrosamurai

Afro Samurai. The concept is fantastic. Looking forward to it.

Club Nintendo is out NOW (in US. Has been in Japan awhile.)

Club Nintendo is out.  Apparently, all those games you registered with your Nintendo.com account can be worth points if you take Surveys for them.

Currently, the site is being hammered, so expect sudden Username/Password rejections and logouts.  Or your todo list, which lists the available surveys you can take on your registered games, not updating.  I’d recommend waiting, but then someone may register and they’ll sell out of their few available items.

If you haven’t registered your games, that’s probably for the better.  You’ll get +10 bonus points if you declare intent to buy BEFORE registering the game itself.  Since the whole Wii game is only worth 40 (50? Reported, but I only got 40), +10 is quite a bit.

Completing a “completion” survey within 4 weeks of a games launch will also net you another +10.

Resident Evil 5 Demo impressions

So I recently got my hands on the resident evil 5 demo and must say that I’m quite impressed.

Initially, the graphics hit me first. Probably the best looking game I’ve played to date. I’ve been playing a lot of gears 2 and left 4 dead lately, so it took me a few playthroughs to get used to the pacing again. At first, I’d just run through gears style and miss all the ammo/pickups and then get slaughtered in a mob of zombies with farming tools. But once I got back into resident evil mode (it’s been a long while since I played RE4 on the wii) things started to click and get really fun.

I finally beat: Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe

kingdomcome3

Let us get this out of the way: “mortal kombat” and “teen rating.”

Now, if you are still reading, either you are new to the series or you are wondering *how* they could do that to your beloved Mortal Kombat.

The answer is: not as badly as you would think.

Bioshock – Quote of the Day

“The Wild Bunny, by Sander Cohen. I want to take the ears off, but I can’t. I hop, and when I hop, I never get off the ground. It’s my curse, my eternal curse. I want to take the ears off, but I can’t! It’s my curse, it’s my fucking curse! I want to take the ears off! Please! Take them off! Pleeeeeeease!”
