I finally watched: Jumper

And I didn’t feel like jumping afterwards.  Not off a cliff, the roof, or even down a flight of stairs.  It certainly wasn’t a “good” movie.  I’m sure I would have been a bit more angry if I’d paid $10 to see it in a theater.  But, all in all, it was enjoyable to finally knock that off my list.

Curiousity drove me to see Jumper,

and it didn’t kill me.

don't tell me the ending to: Castle Crashers

Have you ever played a game in an arcade?  If so you’ve probably played the beat’em-up genre of Castle Crashers.  You move into the foreground, background, and side to side, and you beat up masses of enemies that walk in from the edges of the screen.  Each usually takes a combo or two to put down.  Blocking is optional, the best defense is to walk straight up or down out of the plane of the attack.

You will also have this nostalgia if you had any of the home console versions of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle games (Turtles in Time! Cowabunga!).

Castle Crashers is the most polished example of the genre.  Polished in terms of production values and gameplay.  However, is the best of the genre worth getting if the genre died out years ago?  Read on: my impressions as a compliment sandwich

Get hyped for: Prototype

Whenever you hear about a Sandbox game, you generally hear about GTA.  But there is one other title that generally comes up, especially if the game involves lots of destruction:

Hulk: Ultimate Destruction

And now they are making another sandbox game:

Prototype.

Time to get hyped.

pLayday: 9/2 – Castle Crashers

This has inherit limits: only 4 players.  Of course, we could easily start up multiple games if we have more than 4 people.  I can easily see this being a combination of Phokal, Ztynzo, Boramis, Hintzilla or Chue.  If others want to play, but don’t want to plop down the cash for Castle Crashers,

come on over.

We/You could play a local game on the big TV, and I could setup an online match on the office box.  If you’re reading this and it sounds good to you, post and let me know so I can figure out how many empty player slots we’ve got.

Castle Crashers can delete your save game.

Well, for as good of a game as it is, Castle Crashers has one glaring flaw: you can lose ALL of your progress.  This occurs when you play the game on multiple consoles, and when you load the 2nd console you find your characters aren’t there.  Loading the game up and exiting will then Save, wiping out any chance of getting them back.  Since this game is mostly about collecting characters, weapons, and animals, this is a huge deal.  Odd problem to have, since it is apparently all stored via your Gamertag (ala Halo 3, Gears of War, and Alien Hominid).

Also, it only happens under certain (unknown) circumstances.  Possibly tied to owning Alien Hominid HD in various states (trial, full, full but not original xbox, own full but not downloaded on current Xbox).

And this isn’t just a rumor: It happened to me :(

But, there are apparently a couple of workarounds…

pLayday: 8/25 – Soul Calibur IV

I think we could go for another round of some SC IV.  Matt and I both have all the characters unlocked, and some more create-a-fighter pieces for the more creative amongst us.  I’ve got a 2 stick arcade setup that is pretty fun to use.

Instead of a tournament, last time we just played Braid.  We could get a bit more competative this time.  Anyone know how to set one of those ladders up (rather than just a winner stays…which is kinda of lame).

go buy: Audiosurf – $5

The basics: you drive around a track collecting gems into columns or rows of 3, and then scoring.  The cool aspect?  These tracks are dynamically created visualizations of any song you want.

Rough two-player co-op (one person uses mouse to control, one uses keyboard) also available.

Certainly worth it as the price of a McD’s meal.

Available through Steam.  Sale ends sometime today.  Possibly with the Heavy Update/Free TF2 weekend at 3pm CST.

I finally beat: The Force Unleashed demo

I downloaded and beat The Force Unleashed demo last night, and a couple more times today.  The game is quite fun, though certainly suffers from some problems.  Despite the issues, the game demo is incredibly fun and I can see why the Penny-arcade guys would play it through 7 times.  The first time is throw away.  You are learning the controls and environment.  After that, you begin to learn enemy timing, dodge moves, when to attack and when to be defensive.  Your badassness begins to show through.

**The game is challenging while making you look unstoppable.**

Let’s hope it continues throughout like that.  There are a few other points to cover…
