pLayday: 7/15 – Wit and Wagers or Halo?
You Don’t Know Jack *NEEDS* to come out for XBLA. Until then we have Wits. Though, I have not purchased it yet and do not know if you can do hotseat AND over Live at the same time.
Also, we may have too many people, in which case Halo is a good fallback. Paintball Halo, or some Grifball, or Rocket Race. And some classic FFA on the new Free map.
If we get a low turnout, we can always get some more campaign Metascore achievements in Halo’s campaign.
WALL-E Number 5 – Alive
Sometime, I think that I might just be bitter at what’s successful. From disliking popular video games such as Metal Gear Solid or “not getting” critically acclaimed movies such as No Country for Old Men, I would say that my tastes would be a barometer at what’s crass and classless. Pratchett’s daughter penning Mirror’s Edge
Figured this was worth a quick post for those who missed it on Kotaku. Rhianna Pratchett (Terry’s daughter), who also penned Overlord and Heavenly Sword, will be working on Mirror’s Edge.
I know a few of you are Pratchett fans, and even gained interest in Overlord when you learned she was the writer. What did you think of her work there? Did you know she worked on Heavenly Sword, too?

pLayday: 7/8 – Coop
We’ll see who comes today. If it is a low number like the last two times, then we may be able to do some Halo achievement hunting, co-op campaign with scoring, gta co-op.
I’m thinking next week, or the week after, we should shoot for some Diablo 2 co-op (up to 8 players). Who’d be interested in that? The battlechest goes on sale for $20. Is it available for that anywhere this week?

Go Buy: Day of Defeat Source – $5
As in, go buy it right now. It is currently on sale through your friendly steam client. Based on the very good HL1 mod, this HL2 stand-alone product just got the Achievement patch from valve.
Now, some of you may scoff at picking up this game:
-“My computer’s too crappy.”
-“I’m busy, so I don’t think I can get to it in time.”
-“I don’t know what it is, so I’m not interested.”
I’ll counter with:
It’s FIVE dollars; no tax, no shipping. For the price of a DLC plane skin, picture pack, or a couple songs you get an entire game. A game that is permanently associated with your steam account. Automatically patched; automatically installed when you want.
Plus, you get to shoot Nazis. Or Allies. You know, depending on the team you’re on.

Metal Gear
I think in the world of gamers we are split into two groups. Those who like Metal Gear Solid, and those who dislike Metal Gear Solid. I fall into the camp of the latter.
So, I pose this question:Â would pLayday be better on a different day or at a different time or more Systems?
Currently, it seems like people may be able to make a 9pm slot easier than an 8pm. However, lately we have gone for 2 hrs (8-10pm), and some people can’t play much past 10. In the current iteration, the slot is 8-9pm and we play longer if we want to. Would it be improved if it officially started at 9, and people who want to play longer just show up early? I find this less likely to happen.
Another idea is to mix more systems in. We have been exclusively Live for a bit now, and I haven’t documented the games people actually own yet (but I should). We could branch out and fit in some Mario Kart Wii, or Team Fortress 2 for PC.
We all own PC’s. Would people be willing to pick up games like Team Fortress 2 for $20 (or Orange Box for $30), Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, or freebie’s like Command and Conquer 1, or games we may already own like Diablo 2, Warcraft 3, Fallout Tactics, Defcon, Battlefield 2?
The PC Market certainly has some other options for gaming other than FPS that support more than 4 people, namely RTS and RPG games.
Also, if we want to incorporate PC gaming in, which IM Client should we use? Since we all have an MSN Messanger accounts (your Live acct uses it, I recommend syncing them up) we could all actively begin to use that. Or Steam has a friends list as well.
Psych: TV show on USA
I like watching tv. Psych is part of the new USA network lineup of shows in the same vein of Monk. In short, it’s about a clever character solving mysteries.
Psych is about a detective agency with two partners, the black guy (Gus) and the white guy (Shawn). Shawn has a special ability where he can instantly recognize important clues pertaining to the case that they are currently working on. Of course, it would be too simple if he just told everybody that he was a good detective, so instead he pretends that he’s psychic and the way that he solves cases is by overacted psychic readings.
He also is in conflict with the local head detective with playful pranks and verbal sparring. It’s good to have a source of constant conflict.
I think that the real reason why I like this show is its reference to kitchy pop culture. From Knight Rider t-shirts to nipples on superhero costumes, the show has plenty of small notable mentions of things that are from my childhood. I would say that it’s probably a hard show to get into if you didn’t grow up in the 80’s, but if you had, it’s good stuff. Highly recommended.
pLayday: 7/1 – Let’s meet in Halo
I’m not sure what I feel like playing today. I could do CoD4, GTA4, Halo3, Undertow, Rockband,…I’d be up for almost anything. Let’s see who shows and just decide based off that. I’ve got an open slot at my Apt as well (the 2nd 360 is hooked back up in the office, and I have multiple copies of CoD4 and GTA4).
