pLayday: 3/5 – Left 4 Dead

Today, let’s run with Left4Dead again on the 360.  We may be able to get enough people for a good old versus match.  Otherwise, we can try playing through on Easy for some Achievements, or Normal/Hard/Expert depending on what people want to do.

And here’s a link to the upcoming DLC videos:

don’t tell me the ending to: Crayon Physics Deluxe

crayon-physics-main

Crayon Physics Deluxe is a game that has more in common with some of the most violent videogames than it does with drawing on construction paper.  Crayon Physics Deluxe is all about the sandbox environment, like Grand Theft Auto.  The game is based around one simple premise: get the apple to roll into the star.  There is always an easy way to accomplish this goal, but successfully completing the goal isn’t where the fun is.  The fun comes from using the nearly limitless tools to solve your problem; a way that is interesting in and of itself.

pLayday: 2/26 – Left 4 Dead

We’ve got a couple new L4D’ers out there, so let’s get back to one of the best multiplayer games available.  Left 4 Dead will be tonight’s game.  Hope to see you all there.

Xbox Deal of the Week: Braid

braid_xbox_01

Perhaps due to Steam’s recent success (as noted in Boramis’ post), Microsoft is also implementing a weekly sale.  And they kick it off well.

Braid is going for the more classic 800 point price point.  This game was easily worth the initial $15, so $10 is a steal.  Pick up one of the best games of last year (next to Left 4 Dead as Game of the Year), and probably one of the best all time (pun intended).  Soon to be available on PC as well.

Steam Weekend Deal: Greatest Indie Pack

steamwd-indie-pack

Steam is known for having great weekend deals.  This week it is the Greatest Indie Pack for $10 (75% off).  The Greatest Indie Pack includes:

Together, for $10, is a great deal on these games.  Eets is a great puzzle game (also available for the xbox 360), and Multiwinia is a multiplayer version of Darwinia.  Trials 2 is a very frustrating (but fun) 2d motorcycle game involving the arrow keys and physics-based stunts.

pLayday: 2/19 – Burnout Paradise

burnout-paradise-boxart-wallpaper-big

With a dirt cheap price and new content on the way, Burnout Paradise is an easy recommendation to pick up for pLayday.  New copies can be had for $20, though are difficult to find due to it selling out at most retail stores.

There is a very large patch (a bit over a gig) called the 1.6 patch that is needed to play online.  Be sure to put your disc in nice and early right after work so that this evening your system is up to date before 9pm.

See my previous coverage on the awesome car pack from 80’s movies here.

PuzzleQuest for the iPhone soon complete and now cheaper

puzzle_quest_360

PuzzleQuest for the iPhone launched for $10 and promised to be the first of 3 chapters.  It was the first half of the initial release of PuzzleQuest, followed by the second half, and then the console-only Expansion.  Each to be priced.

Recently, it has been announced that the second half will be a free update, as may be reflected in the name change from PuzzleQuest: Chapter 1 to PuzzleQuest.  The price has also been reduced (sale?) to $8 from $10.

There were technical issues with the initial release, and some still complain about the font, but there is now a Free demo available to test this with.

For $8, the original PuzzleQuest, on the go on my phone, will be purchased again.

Left 4 Dead Sale extended.

I intended to post about this earlier this weekend, but ended up just telling specific people.  Now that it’s extended, I guess it’s time for an overall announcement.

Left 4 Dead is one of the best multiplayer games.  It is fun with any number of players, from 2-8.  The PC version will have Mod support coming this Spring/Summer and is currently on sale for $25.

Quick Review

Since this game will probably not drop below $20 for at least a couple years, this is about as cheap as you would ever be able to get it.  If you intend to own a PC capable of playing this game in the next 1-2 years (which, should be everyone assuming a 4 year turnaround on computers running an OS that isn’t linux), then you have little reason not to pick this up.

Unless you hate fun.  Or don’t have $25.

Bloody Valentines

mybloodyvalentine2

Bloody Valentine is pitched as the perfect date movie because nothing says romance like extreme gore and violence.

In light of the recent Valentine’s Day, here is a list of games that are perfect date games.

gta-4-push

-Grand Theft Auto

Because nothing says “I love you” like running over an old lady with an car, getting out, and beating her fallen body with a bat until money pops out.  It shows that in desperate times, you’ll do whatever it takes to provide for you family; even if your family is composed entirely of middle-aged, hairy, Italian men.
