Irony?: I don’t own Mario Kart Wii
My friends, friends of friends, even the manager at the Subway I frequent, all have Mario Kart Wii. Everybody seems to have played it for at least a bit.
Craig and I (we both own a lot of video games) do not. Does that qualify as Irony?
I finally beat: Phoenix Wright – Ace Attorney
Dang. That 5th case is really long.
The initial tutorial case is short, and the next is double its length. What you do not expect is that each case doubles the length. Save points between each of the 3 days stretches to between phases of each day. Then during particularly long court sequences you may get another auto-save. During the 5th case, you get several checkpoints during a single conversation.

A useful facebook app? Wii Friend Code organizer
This may be the best use of facebook, yet. While I may get laughed at for the Wii Code in my phone, I’m also the only person to ever actually give someone a Wii Code. It’s not like anyone has the damn thing memorized.

Last weeks showing was a bit weak, perhaps because I was lax and did not post here. GTA Free mode works quite well with any number of players.
Well, this week I hope to get a few more people in. This includes split screeners. The theme: “Invite some people over to your place to join you this week.”
Sure, it’s short notice, but anyone up for Halo 3 split screen lan party will drop any other activities and join you (or, not be doing anything already).

So, I was in my local game shop browsing when I saw the gem Panzer Dragoon Orta for $10 bucks (it’s backwards compatible now) and I decide to walk up to the register to pay and leave. After all, I had to get to bond movie night.
They have one of those 10% off used games clubs (so technically, PDO was $9). The clerk asks for my last name to look up my club info.
Like a man wearing a trenchcoat around an alleyway, he leans over the counter:
“You want Wii Fit, right?”
Puzzled because I had just handed him an old Xbox game and had made no mention of the Wii, I still nod. After all, I had just added my name to a queue; a list I was a few dozen low on since I had added my name to it just the day before (Thursday).
He must have recognized my name from the pre-order list for Wii Fit.
…or I just looked really out of shape…and hipster enough to own a Wii.
A Dirty Job: The Book.
Sometimes, there are times when we do not have access to electronics. Apparently, there are other forms of media to accommodate that situation. There are these black and while pieces of paper that have icons on them arranged in a certain order that conveys ideas directly into the brain when you decode them. These things are called “books” and they entertain you when you “read” them. They don’t even require electricity. What will they think of next?
I just finished “reading” A Dirty Job, which is a “book” by Christopher Moore. In short, it was pretty good in a modern day whimsical style.
I found this book by looking for something similar to Terry Pratchett. Moore is described as entertaining, the only criticism is that he isn’t British. A Dirty Job has truly enjoyable characters and it looks at death with classic ideas in a modern setting. I think even though the plot of the book isn’t as flushed out as it could be, I though that the book was enjoyable just because we looked at the lives of entertaining characters. These characters knew they were being funny (vs Terry Pratchett, in which everything is done with tongue in cheek).
In short, if you enjoy zainy books and like Terry Pratchett and Douglas (Hitchhiker’s Guide), this book is on the recommended list. If you only read Clancy or King, maybe you should just wait another 6 days or so when a new King book comes out.
Researchers: Red players beat blue in online game
I don’t think we do a lot of linking to news stories, but I feel that this deserves mention because our resident host (Phokal) has an oddly ocd fetish with being on the red team. Apparently, he knew something that we didn’t.
According to scientific research, the Red team beats the Blue team in more matches. They did a study of 1,347 online matches of Unreal tournament 2004 and they found that the red team won 55% of the time. I had always thought that Phokal’s ability to destroy me in games was due to quick reflexes, an acute sense of 3d space when viewed through a 2d plane, and a pair of superthumbs that even Fonzie would covet. I guess the truth is that he’s just always been on the red team.

Speed Racer has gotten a bad rap. Sure, it’s not for everyone, but if you go into the movie with certain expectations, then you might find, as I did, a very satisfying experience. With that, here are my top four reasons why you should watch Speed Racer.
